ST. LOUIS – St. Louis native and rapper Nelly made a surprise performance in Cleveland Saturday night, just days after getting arrested at a St. Louis casino.
The “Country Grammar” artist came on stage during fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly’s annual “MGK Day” performance at FWD Day + Nightclub in Cleveland. During his performance, Nelly performed his 2002 hit song “Air Force Ones” and his 2005 hit “Grillz.”
The performance comes days after Nelly, aka Cornell I. Haynes Jr. , 49, was arrested for a 2018 infraction, which turned into a warrant issued in December 2023, after winning several jackpots at the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, according to his attorney, Scott Rosenbloom.
Rosenblum says the officer discovered a warrant for a no proof of insurance infraction, handcuffed Nelly, and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of four pills, “tentatively identified” as ecstasy.
Nelly was transported to the Maryland Heights Police Department and was released a short time after his arrest on Wednesday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, formal charges for possession of a controlled substance were submitted to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
