ROLLA, Mo. – The Phelps County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims of a fatal house fire from this past weekend.

The fire happened around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, in the 10000 block of County Road 2120 in Rolla.

Several area fire departments were dispatched to the home. An off-duty Phelps County sheriff’s deputy who lives nearby got to the home first and noticed a small boy outside the residence. He took the boy out of harm’s way and stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

Authorities believed others were trapped inside the home. The Rolla Rural Fire Protection District arrived and entered the home, but were evacuated less than 30 seconds after going on due to structural dangers and concern that the firefighters would be trapped.

Firefighters from other agencies arrived to help extinguish the blaze. Three bodies were found inside the home. They were identified as Jessica Sager, 35, and her two children, Caydence and Savannah, ages 14 and 9.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal has not yet determined the cause of the fire due to the severity of the damage. However, criminal activity is not suspected.
