JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – The 26-year-old Jefferson County mother, who told police she killed her two children Tuesday, was expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon. Now, she has a public defender representing her and waived her formal arraignment.

Due to her decision to waive the arraignment, the judge did not have to read official charges against her or the potential sentencing she could face.

Ashley Parmeley walked into the Festus Police Department Tuesday morning, stating that she had shot her 9-year-old daughter Scarlet and drowned her 2-year-old son Isaac.

Police immediately went outside and found Scarlet suffering from gunshot wounds inside Ashley’s SUV. They attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

A nearby camera in St. Francois County showed the same vehicle in the area, where a witness also heard a gunshot and drowned her Isaac in a fountain.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 6. FOX 2 reached out to the  Jefferson County Prosecutor and Ashley’s attorney for a comment, but have not heard back yet.
