ST. LOUIS – Work crews are preparing to close lanes on northbound Interstate 55 at River Des Peres for rehab work on the overpass.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, MoDOT crews will close northbound I-55 at Carondelet and River City Boulevard (Exit 202A). Vehicles will only be allowed to turn right on River City Boulevard and follow it to Broadway, which will lead drivers back to the interstate.

Two northbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, March 1.

Crews will again close northbound I-55 at Exit 202A at 9 p.m. that evening for the weekend. The same detour via Broadway will be available.

Crews will close one southbound lane at the overpass on Saturday, March 2, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Two northbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.

MoDOT is advising drivers to be aware that traffic will shift to the northbound side of I-55 and then back to the southbound side between River City Boulevard and Loughborough.

The closures are necessary as engineers design replacements for damaged girders on the northbound I-55 bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad. The girders will be completed and delivered by the fall.
