StT. LOUIS – Road crews are working on both sides of the river Friday morning to keep roads as safe and clear as possible.
Both MoDOT and IDOT told FOX 2 that many roads are either partially or completely covered. The good news from authorities is that so far, no serious weather-related incidents are being reported.
Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter, Nic Lopez, captured footage of MoDOT crews out on the roadways. Officials also explained that their crews have been out all day trying to clear snow from roadways. MoDOT says the Missouri Highway Patrol is also out with all available troopers to help out any stranded drivers.
Joe Monroe with IDOT revealed that he had crews coming in starting at 9:00 p.m. Monroe added that he has 75 to 80 trucks out working on Illinois roads in the area. Monroe says there was no need to pretreat roadways before this latest storm because there were already plenty of chemicals from past storm events.
In addition to the snowfall, MoDOT shared that another major concern for authorities is the extreme cold temperatures that are settling in with this latest event. Bottom line message from authorities Friday morning: be careful if you have to go out, and if you don’t have to go out, staying home might not be a bad idea, at least for the time being.
