MISSOURI (KOLR) – Chappell Roan won the MTV Video Music Award for best new artist on Wednesday night.

Roan’s music video “HOT TO GO!”, which showcased several local Ozarks landmarks, has gotten over 20 million views on YouTube.

The Willard native singer brought her diary out to read the victory speech.

“I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me,” said Roan in her speech, while wearing chain mail. “And I dedicate this to queer and trans people who run pop. … Thank you for listening.”

“And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you because I’m one of you. And don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you wanna be,” said Roan.

Roan was also up for MTV Push Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” as well as Song of the Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!” and Best Trending Video for “HOT TO GO!”
