Missouri Task Force 1 heads to Louisiana for hurricane aid

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Task Force 1 will be deploying to Louisiana ahead of Tropical Cyclone Francine making landfall.

The task force was activated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ahead of the tropical storm making landfall on Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane near New Orleans.

The team will join Tennessee Task Force 1 in Alexandria, LA, in assisting in rescue operations, medical support and other emergency services.

MO-TF1 will be deployed as a Type III task force, involving 35 personnel, 10 ground support personnel, over 100,000 pounds of equipment, and two live-find k9 units. Upon arrival in the staging area, the group will be given mission assignments based on the needs of local authorities and communities.

The team will be accompanied by two members of a FEMA Incident Support team, who will serve as the Operations Section Chief and the Hazardous Materials Technician. The two will help support the effort by providing specialized expertise.

MO-TF1 recently departed from the Boone County Fire Protection District Headquarters at 7 a.m. Tuesday and expects to arrive in Alexandria before 9 p.m. CST the same day.
