JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services recently announced the “My Life, My Quit” program, which is aimed at helping youth quit smoking and vaping.

Confidential support is available with the program for those 13 to 17 years old. Help includes a personalized plan with a trained coach, with sessions through text, live chat, or phone.

“More Missouri teens now vape than adults who smoke cigarettes,” Abby Newland with the DHSS Tobacco Prevention and Control Program said. “This is significant, given that Missouri has one of the highest national smoking rates.”

In 2021, DHHS reported that 19% of high school students vaped, while 17% of adults smoked.

Teens who complete the program will earn incentives along the way, along with a completion certificate. Teens will learn how to cope in healthy ways, get encouragement, learn why the body craves nicotine, and more.
