MILLSTADT, Ill. – Multiple homes reported damage from Sunday night’s storm.

Pete Wessel was at his family’s home on Monday helping clean up after the storm destroyed a shed and power pole on the property.

“It basically just lifted that shed up and put it into a pen that we have for some goats. But everything underneath it appears okay,” Wessel said.

Although the shed was destroyed, a barn right next to it appeared unscathed.

“The barn. We’re grateful that that’s still standing. That goes back to the 1800s. My family’s been here since my great grandfather,” Wessel said.

It is the second time this property has had storm damage so far this year.

“It bothers me. I don’t know if this pattern’s here to stay or what but if you go back and look at this history of the storms that we’ve been seeing here throughout the Midwest, they seem to be intensifying more,” St. Clair County 911 EMA Director Herb Simmons said.

Around the corner, Sis Briley’s home was also hit.

“I came out with a flashlight and saw my neighbor out here looking around for damage too and she said there’s all kinds of debris over here in the field. I said oh, that’s where my roof went,” she said. “It didn’t break everything. It was really bizarre how it was just hit and miss. It took things. Broke things. I have a glass table on the deck and it didn’t even touch it.”

A table was untouched but the roof to her deck was 100 yards away.
