ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A man was shot over the weekend while attempting to stand up for his wife, who was being accosted and hit on by another man at a birthday party.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting occurred on March 16 at a home in the 1500 block of Faris Avenue in Pagedale.
Officers arrived at the home and found the victim, Frederick A. Sims, lying in the stairwell behind the home. Sims had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 58.
Investigators identified Darrell Roy Proudie, 72, as the man who shot Sims.
Police and prosecutors claim Sims and his wife were attending a birthday party. Proudie, who lives nearby, was also in attendance. During the party, Proudie made numerous public and lewd advances toward Sims’ wife.
Sims eventually confronted Proudie and an argument ensued. At some point during the argument, Sims tripped and fell, and Proudie took out a gun and shot him.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Proudie with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
