Man dies after being set on fire overnight in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – A man died after he was set on fire overnight in north St. Louis, prompting a suspicious death investigation.

First responders found the victim, burned and with various unconfirmed injuries, around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 4900 block of Plover Avenue, located in St. Louis’ Walnut Park East neighborhood.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports that officers responded to a call for shots fired, then learned of a fire alarm a short time later in the same area.

SLMPD says the victim was set on fire and extinguished by fire officials prior to police arrival. Police found the victim in an alley, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A medical examiner is working to determine the official cause of death. Homicide detectives with SLMPD are investigating the case. Police have not yet disclosed if any suspects are connected with the victim’s death.
