ST. LOUIS – Charges have been filed against a man for a shooting Saturday night in Downtown West.
According to Sgt. Charles Wall, a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of North 13th and St. Charles streets.
Bike officers were in the area when they heard gunshots and responded. The officers found the victim, a 35-year-old man, had been shot several times.
The victim provided a description of the shooter to police, who began canvassing the area.

Wall said officers noticed a man matching that description entering an apartment building. That man was taken into custody without incident. Police said the man, identified as Michael Cavitt, 32, was armed.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Cavitt with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. As of Sunday afternoon, information on Cavitt’s bond and court appearance were not disclosed.
Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
This was the first of two shootings in Downtown West over an eight-hour period. Five people were shot around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Washington Avenue.
