Man charged with murder in deadly Washington Park shooting

WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. – Authorities have arrested a murder suspect who is accused in a deadly shooting in Washington Park, Illinois earlier this month.

Prosecutors have charged Vincent Brown, 61, of Belleville, Illinois, with one felony charge of first-degree murder amid the investigation.

Authorities have identified the victim as Leon Richardson, 66, of Washington Park, Illinois. Richardson was found deceased on Aug. 11 with an apparent gunshot wound.

Illinois State Police agents have been handling the investigation. In recent days, agents were able to locate Brown’s vehicle, conduct a traffic stop, and take Brown into custody.

Investigators have not yet disclosed any potential motives in Richardson’s death. Prosecutors with the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office filed the murder charge against Brown.
