ST. JOHN, Mo. – A man faces felony charges after a seven-vehicle crash Thursday morning in St. John. Several people were hospitalized with injuries from the collision.

The suspect allegedly drove a stolen pickup truck involved in the crash and tried to run away from the scene. Authorities say he was also linked to “a series of criminal activities … within a short period of time.”

Prosecutors have charged Surron Lamonte Cook Jr., 30, of St. Louis County, with four felonies – tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident – in the crash.

According to Missouri court records, Cook was also charged with stealing a motor vehicle and second-degree burglary in Town & Country on Thursday, which presumably happened prior to the crash.

The collision happened around 9 a.m. Thursday on St. Charles Rock Road near Intestate 170.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Cook struck six vehicles near the Rock Road and an exit ramp to I-170. The truck came to a stop near the scene of the collision.

As police arrived to the scene, Cook ignored orders and tried to run away from the scene, per court documents. Police arrested him after a brief foot chase.

The St. John Police Department reports that five people were treated for injuries at a hospital. Police and court documents indicate that Cook was wanted on other weapon-related offenses elsewhere, in addition to burglary and theft offenses.

Cook is jailed in St. Louis County on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
