ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A man faces felony charges after a hit-and-run crash in south St. Louis County that led to an elderly man’s death.
Prosecutors have charged Edvin Draganovic, 34, with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and driving while revoked.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Monday near the area of Mackenzie Road and Alpine Drive. Investigators say William Starr, 74, died in the crash.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, a driver struck Starr as he was walking southbound on Mackenzie Road. Witnesses say the driver did a burnout at a nearby intersection before heading southbound.
The accused driver, later identified as Draganovic, passed around another vehicle with two occupants and struck Starr moments later.
Authorities gathered witness statements and used DOR records to eventually track down Draganovic. Police learned that the vehicle was registered to his father, but Draganovic was allegedly driving it at the time of the crash.
As investigators found Draganovic and the truck, they noticed the vehicle was missing a side mirror, had a sheet draped on the side of the truck, and had splatter on the side. Per court documents, when Draganovic spoke to officers, he said “I hit something but didn’t know what” and expressed that he didn’t remember what had happened during the collision, per court documents.
Draganovic was promptly arrested and is now being held at the St. Louis County jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
