JENNINGS, Mo. – A man faces felony charges after an argument led to a deadly stabbing last month in Jennings.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Maray Carpenter, 39, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action amid the investigation.
Carpenter is accused of fatally stabbing a man at his home in the 5700 block of Helen Avenue on July 19. Police have not disclosed the victim’s identity.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, Carpenter and the victim were in a heated argument that involved some pushing and shoving. As the victim tried to get to his car, Carpenter approached him and stabbed him in the chest.
The victim was later rushed to a hospital for treatment, though he died from his injuries.
Authorities recovered a knife suspected in the stabbing in an alleyway near the home, which also matched a set of knives from the home. Carpenter was later questioned about the stabbing, to which he admitted to leaving the home through an alleyway, but denied any involvement in an altercation leading up to the victim’s death, per the probable cause statement.
Carpenter is booked into jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
