Man breaks into Clayton apartment with residents present

CLAYTON, Mo. – One man is in custody after burglarizing and robbing two victims at a Clayton apartment Friday, according to the police department.

Police were notified of an active burglary in the 6300 block of Northwood Ave. just before 2:30 p.m.

The victims stated that the 36-year-old suspect entered the common area of the building. He robbed one victim, then assaulted another while making his way into the apartment. According to officials, both victims were able to escape unharmed.

Officers quickly apprehended the suspect after he fled the building near N. Rosebury and Demun Avenues. Police state the man is from southeast Missouri and it is unclear what his relationship to St. Louis is, if any.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will review the case. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody.
