Man accused of killing wife with hammer in south St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A man accused of killing his wife with a hammer earlier this week in south St. Louis County is behind bars.

Prosecutors have charged Robert Leverenz with first-degree murder and armed criminal action amid the investigation.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Leverenz called authorities around 10 a.m. Thursday and reported that “he tried to murder his wife.” Court documents indicated he struck here with a hammer several times and also choked her.

Police arrived to a south county home Thursday and found the woman deceased. Leverenz was arrested around that same time.

Per court documents, Leverenz had made threatening statements to other family members within the past few weeks.

Leverenz is jailed in St. Louis County on a $1 million cash-only bond.
