CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis are searching for the gunman who killed a man in Cahokia Heights late Tuesday evening.

Fifteen Major Case Squad detectives have been working out of the Cahokia Heights Police Department. On Wednesday morning, the victim was identified as 48-year-old Larkalo Williams. But authorities still have more questions than answers and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

“It’s too much for me take,” Linda Gladney, who knew Larkalo’s family, said.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday in front of townhomes in the 5800 block of Mitchell Lane.

Family and friends described Larkalo as a loving father and hard worker in the construction field.

“Especially it’s someone that I know that’s (in my church). It makes me want to cry,” Gladney said. “I feel for (his mother) because we was always close.”

Police arrived to find two cars had been in a crash and Williams shot dead inside of his vehicle. Both cars had caught fire.

At this point, police do not have a motive and said the shooter remains at large.

“The Major Case Squad exists to help communities and to help the loved ones with their loss and try to come to a swift conclusion on this,” Bade said.

“I hope they catch the person that’s responsible for doing this. And for no reason!” Gladney said. “Well, they had a reason of their own. I pray for the family.”
