ST. LOUIS – Fans of Hip-Hop will be excited to hear that the legendary group behind some of the all-time great songs in the genre, the Sugarhill Gang, are visiting St. Louis for a good cause.

The hip-hop pioneer group will be in St. Louis to participate and perform in the Back to School & Community Empowerment Festival being held in America’s Dome on July 20. The Urban League will host the event and Grand Master Flash will also be in attendance.

The group joined the show to talk about their impact on hip-hop, the community panel, messages to the youth, what they have been up to, and what to expect from their performance.

The group will also host a community panel that they hope will bring inspiration to the youth.

“We have to start putting more positive energy into the universe and get people to start thinking about doing the right thing instead of always trying to do the wrong thing,” Master Gee said. “We want to put more emphasis on being stronger together as opposed to going at each other.”

The event will go on from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will provide school supplies, haircuts, health screenings and financial literacy classes to attendees.

When asked about their upcoming performance, the group gave fans a hint on what to expect.

“A great show. Get your popcorn ready. A lot of energy.”
