ST. LOUIS – Laclede’s Landing, an entertainment district along the St. Louis Riverfront, gets a new touch as city leaders aim to revitalize the once-bustling area with an art park and disc golf course.

Pocketparts, a local nonprofit known for transforming under-used spaces into vibrant community hubs, has helped with the creation of Laclede’s Landing Active Art Park and Disc Golf Putting Course.

The park features historic columns that have been re-purposed as benches and barriers to prevent unsafe vehicle traffic. There are also raised planter beds with greenery and sculptures that serve a dual purpose.

“The sculptures are not only for beautification, but they’re also acting as obstacles for the games. So you might be throwing through a sculpture, or around a sculpture to try to meet your target,” said Amantha Smugala, president and founder of Pocketparts

The Laclede’s Landing Active Art Park and Disc Golf Putting Course officially opens to the public on Thursday. Grand opening festivities will take place from 5-8 p.m.
