KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The investigation into Wednesday’s Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting continues Thursday morning.
One person is dead, and 21 people are recovering after being shot. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas answered some questions Thursday morning.
Lucas said as of 7 a.m. Thursday, there have been no updates from area hospitals on the conditions of patients.
“We have no medical updates, which in many ways is a good sign,” Lucas said. “No further conditions that are deteriorating, no more fatalities, and that is something that is heartening for us.”
According to the mayor, there are still three people in custody who are being questioned by the Kansas City Police Department.
Lucas moved on to say that Thursday is a day of healing for all people impacted by the shooting at Union Station on Wednesday.
“Today is about healing for many people in Kansas City,” Lucas said.
“Those who were very closely impacted and hit, comforting the family of our one deceased victim. And my condolences go out to them tremendously,” Lucas said.
“And then, of course, trying to comfort the hundreds of thousands of people who were there present yesterday, the families and the children.”
The mayor asks that anyone with information call the Kansas City Police Department.
KCPD has set up a tips line for people who witnessed the shooting incident, has any video or was a victim of the shooting who hasn’t yet reported being shot to call (816) 413-3477.
Lucas praised the Kansas City community for how they have come together in the aftermath of the shooting.
“What’s probably more interesting to me is how many people have comforted one another. I have seen the video of those tackling a potential subject of interest; you know, I’m proud of Kansas City and how they’ve responded,” Lucas said.
“I think we are a community that cares about each other.”
Local radio station KKFI said DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano, was killed in the shooting.
“It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ rally. Our hearts and prayers are with her family,” the station wrote on Facebook.
Including gunshot victims and other injuries, nearly 30 people were injured in the shooting, according to information from hospital officials.
