ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The 15-year-old girl charged with beating another girl near Hazelwood East High School has admitted to the assault and is now home with her parents.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the juvenile court downgraded her charge from first-degree assault to second-degree assault. She was in juvenile detention for four months.

Her lawyer, Greg Smith, says the downgrade was because prosecutors acknowledged the teen acted with “sudden passion” and the attack was not intentional.

The teen will be under court supervision for at least six months and will complete community service.

The family of the victim, Kaylee Gain, has not commented on the case’s resolution.
