JENNINGS, Mo. – St. Louis County Police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run early Tuesday morning in Jennings.

Vanessa Ford, 71, was walking down Wilborn Drive around 1 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

Residents have been left shocked, saying this isn’t normal for their neighborhood. Missouri Rep. Yolanda Fountain Henderson is heart broken after this incident.

“To find out it was a lady, and it’s like no value of life—I mean, how can you hit someone and just keep going?” she said. “Whoever this person is, please just turn yourself in… you didn’t just hurt somebody; you killed this lady.”

Those who frequently drive on the street say the news is disturbing.

“It’s really sad; this area right here is normally just kind of quiet… I really haven’t seen any activity lately, not on this street. It bothers me and troubled me,” resident Shawni Jackson said.

Another nearby neighbor, Joseph McKee, added, “They just need to be mindful of the elderly and the different people that walk at night, because of what type of neighborhood this is.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
