JENNINGS, Mo. – The start of the holiday weekend has had a tragic start, as a Jennings mother of two was killed in a car accident early Friday morning.

Just before 2:15 a.m., an alleged drunk driver from Madison County was traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 70 near Jennings Station Road, striking another vehicle.

Police identified the victim as 32-year-old Latricia Robinson. Authorities say the fatal accident could have been prevented.

“People leave their homes every day, whether it’s going to work or somewhere, and it’s the last thing you think is going to happen,” MSHP Trooper Logan Bolton said. “The sad part about this crash is that something like this is avoidable. A decision was made to be impaired and get behind the wheel…it’s a danger for yourself and every car on the interstate with you.”

The driver was arrested at the scene for DWI and taken to a hospital in serious condition. Police are reminding drivers to not drink and drive this weekend.

“It is supposed to be fun; it’s the last big holiday of the summer, you want to make the most of those times and not end in tragedy,” Bolton said. “So if you are going to make those decisions, have a plan in place or use a rideshare.”
