JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Travelers heading south on U.S. Route 67 towards Farmington will now navigate through the northwest roundabout at the U.S. Route 67 and Interstate 55 interchange. The remaining portion of the roundabout is expected to open in the coming months.
Construction began on the night of July 29. Currently, the roundabout is only open to traffic heading south on U.S. Route 67. Once finished, the roundabout will also accommodate traffic between I-55 and U.S. Route 67. This work zone is part of an I-55 design-build project in Jefferson County.
Rachel Sudduth, a representative of the Missouri Department of Transportation in the St. Louis region, stated that the I-55 Corridor Improvements project area includes the cities of Pevely, Herculaneum, Festus, and Crystal City.
“The purpose of this project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region. The existing I-55/US 67 cloverleaf interchange is being reconfigured to improve safety and reliability. The new roundabout in the northwest of the I-55/US 67 interchange will replace the existing loop ramp in the southwest quadrant,” said Sudduth. “The roundabout efficiently moves traffic from southbound I-55 to northbound US 67 while not impeding the heavy volume of traffic traveling on northbound US 67 with a signalized intersection.”

Are you roundabout ready?
A roundabout is a circular intersection designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety compared to traditional intersections with traffic lights or stop signs.
The U.S. Department of Transportation recommends three easy steps to ensure proper roundabout navigation:
Slow down
Look around
Be ready to yield
