JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Jefferson County man was charged Thursday with the 2023 theft of approximately $50,000 worth of construction equipment and tools.

The theft took place on Sept. 5, 2023, at a construction site along Highway 21 just south of Highway 141, according to a probable cause statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators later learned some of the stolen equipment and tools appeared for sale on Facebook Marketplace. That led authorities to Douglas Buffer, the man selling the stolen tools.

Deputies claim to have found the stolen equipment at Buffer’s property, along with other items stolen across Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Buffer (age not provided) with one count of stealing and stealing of a motor vehicle. A warrant was issued for Buffer’s arrest on Thursday.
