HILLSBORO, Mo. – A Jefferson County Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant last week for a man accused of molesting the child of a woman he’d been dating.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s probable cause statement, Nicholas M. Richard made inappropriate contact with the victim, who was under the age of 10, on at least two occasions.

The first incident occurred in 2021 and the second in November 2022.

Investigators claim Richard sent text messages to the child’s mother, threatening to harm himself. Richard’s mother contacted law enforcement to ask that he be taken to a medical facility because his mental health had become unstable.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Richard with second-degree child molestation. Richard’s bond was set at $20,000.
