LITCHFIELD, Ill. – A man from a Chicago suburb was arrested in central Illinois last week for trafficking methamphetamine after receiving a phone call from a passenger in his vehicle.

On January 17, the Illinois State Police received a 911 call from a person in a vehicle claiming to be held against their will. Law enforcement tracked the vehicle for several miles on Interstate 55 and pulled the vehicle over just north of Litchfield.

Both the passenger and driver were questioned and state troopers determined there was no “illegal restraint.” However, authorities searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 1.25 pounds of meth and other illegal drugs in the vehicle.

The driver, Matthew Norwood, 58, was taken into custody.

The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Norwood with methamphetamine traffic and meth delivery between 400 and 900 grams. Norwood remains jailed without bond.
