I-55 crash and car fire disrupt traffic for hours

OAKVILLE, Mo. — A vehicle fire on Interstate 55 has closed lanes of traffic for over an hour Tuesday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that the multi-vehicle collision happened in the northbound lanes, just south of the Meramec Bottom Road overpass. There is a significant traffic backup in the area.

One vehicle was fully engulfed in flames in one lane, while another vehicle is blocking two other lanes on the highway. The extent of injuries is currently unknown.

Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol are on scene, along with St. Louis County and Arnold Police departments. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) has been notified and is en route to assist.
