MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – A stretch of Interstate 270 in Maryland Heights is back open now after it shut down early Friday morning. Someone hit a woman, then left the scene.

Corporal Dallas Thompson with the Missouri Highway Patrol told FOX 2 that the female pedestrian who was struck was conscious when she was taken by EMS from the scene. At this point, there’s no additional detail on her condition.

A stretch of I-270 north right at the I-70 ramps was shut down for a while as the Missouri Highway Patrol investigated the incident. The scene has since cleared and the highway has completely reopened.

When and where the snow is expected to fall Friday

This all happened around 3:00 a.m. Cpl. Thompson said that the woman was hit either on 270 north or on the shoulder, and then the vehicle that hit her left the scene. At this point, it’s unclear what the woman was doing in the area. Authorities also don’t have a description of the vehicle involved in the scene.

Thompson added that there were no other vehicles involved in the incident, revealing that it’s unclear why the vehicle left the scene. For about an hour, traffic going north on 270 was also being forced off the highway at the I-70 ramps. Thompson finally shared that a trooper did go to the hospital to speak with the woman who was hit.

FOX 2 will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
