Homemade explosive devices found in Fenton-area mailbox

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after four homemade explosive devices were found in front of a home just south of Fenton.

Around 2 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to a home in the 1700 block of Old Highway 141 for a report of a bomb, according to a sheriff’s office spokesman.

Deputies found three sticks shaped like dynamite inside a mailbox, along with a bottle containing what appeared to be gunpowder. Each item had a fuse attached.

The sheriff’s office closed the roadway and contacted the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit for assistance.

The bomb squad arrived at the scene and safely removed the devices in order to properly dispose of them.

The road was reopened around 4 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
