JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A day of rain across the St. Louis viewing area resulted in problems and headaches for many.

Crews were pumping water out of historic fixture the Gallant Lady in House Springs Tuesday, a former mercantile and general store dating back to the 19th century. Water washed in along with debris from rain Monday.

“We’ve been here since this morning, squeegeeing as much mud as possible,” co-owner Jenny Laforest said. “That’s as far as we’ve gotten—a lot of cleaning.”

The day started with rain throughout the region. Warm temperatures lately have left the ground dry, creating conditions that were just right to cause an 80-foot-tall tree to topple over in Rock Hill. Firefighters and Ameren were on the scene later.

Meanwhile, in Overland, water pooled near Interstate 170 and Page Avenue, forcing drivers to slow down and take precaution.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for parts of St. Louis County, including the Meramec River near Arnold until July 16 and the Missouri River at St. Charles until July 12. Many areas are expected to see flash flooding.

Officials remind you that when you see water on the roads, turn around and don’t drown.
