ST. LOUIS – One member of the former St. Louis group St. Lunatics will continue to pursue a lawsuit against Nelly after the other three members decided to drop out.
Ali Jones, former member of the 2000s St. Louis rap group, will continue to pursue the $50 million lawsuit against Nelly after claiming the rapper prevented the members from gaining royalties and profits from his debut certified diamond album, “Country Grammar.”
The lawsuit was filed by Jones in September and initially included the other three members of the group, Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and City Spud. According to the suit, it took 20 years for the St. Lunatics members to realize they had not been given credit or payment for eight tracks on the album.
According to TMZ, Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, says the three St. Lunatic members are now demanding to be removed from the suit, claiming they did not give authorization to be included. In fact, they continue to remain close with the “Air Force Ones” rapper.
The update in the lawsuit comes after the former St. Lunatics group members, other than Jones, reunited on stage to perform at the American Music Festival on Sunday. The performance served as a tribute to the evolution of hip-hop and also featured other St. Louis natives, Chingy and J-Kwon.
According to the Post-Dispatch, the lawsuit comes three years after Jones and Nelly got into an argument about who was responsible for the formation of the St. Lunatics in the 90s.
