ST. LOUIS – A former teacher at a Wildwood high school appeared in federal court on Wednesday to be sentenced for using hidden cameras to produce child sexual abuse material.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Missouri said Joseph Gutowski, 42, placed hidden cameras in his office at Lafayette High School and in his home. He secretly filmed a minor and traded those images with others online.
According to court documents, Gutowski was part of an underground child pornography group on the cloud storage service MEGA. He traded videos of an adult whom he secretly recorded in the Club Creep group on MEGA, as well.
Gutowski pleaded guilty in July to one count of producing child pornography and one count of receiving child pornography.
A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Gutowski to 20 years in federal prison. Gutowski was also ordered to pay $86,500 in restitution to his victims, which includes the people who appeared in the CSAM he collected.
