ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – The former Education Department Chair at St. Charles Community College, and currently the College of Education Dean at Harris-Stowe State University, has been charged with tampering with files that contained student information at the community college.
Nicole Nunn-Faron is facing one charge of tampering with computer data in St. Charles County Circuit Court for incidents that occurred between April 18 and April 22 of this year.
Records state that Nunn-Faron was the owner of a SCC folder that contained common forms which was shared with her department. When a staff member noticed the folder was missing, IT discovered the dean had deleted 459 files.
While some documents were able to be recovered, the IT department had to contact Microsoft to obtain other files. There were 214 files located by Microsoft and restored. Additionally, they let the IT team know that prior to the files being deleted, they were moved to an external hard drive.
According to court records, the files deleted included information of students who were seeking to become teachers. One example given was a student who filled out a teacher candidate profile for SCC’s program, which required a resume that contained sensitive information. The information included addresses, phone numbers, a tuberculosis consent form, college ID numbers, and more.
It is stated in the probable cause statement that Nunn-Faron consulted a member with the IT department on how to move files to an external hard drive. Nunn-Faron’s attorney gave the hard drive to the college on July 23.
Nunn-Faron took on her new role at Harris-Stowe on July 1.
A hearing is scheduled for September 25.
