ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man appeared in federal court on Wednesday and admitted being caught with multiple firearms and narcotics following a 2023 police chase.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Missouri said Perry A. McCoy, 33, had three Glock pistols, cocaine base, and methamphetamine in his possession at the time of the pursuit, which took place on Oct. 24, 2023.

Officers and detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at McCoy’s home in the 6100 block of Sherry Avenue to conduct a court-approved search of the residence.

Before the search warrant was executed, McCoy arrived at the home in a red Dodge Charger. McCoy entered the home and left in the Charger.

Police followed McCoy to a nearby gas station and watched him conduct a hand-to-hand drug transaction.

When police attempted to stop McCoy, he sped off. McCoy rolled over spike strips that had been placed in front of the Charger and led police on a brief pursuit.

McCoy attempted to make a U-turn to avoid hitting another set of spike strips but was t-boned by a Toyota Tacoma, police said. With his car totaled, McCoy took off on foot and tossed a fanny pack while officers ran after him.

Police eventually tackled McCoy and arrested him. Officers found a plastic bag containing 2.33 grams of meth in the discarded fanny pack. They also discovered the three pistols in the car, as well as a plastic bag containing 16.1 grams of cocaine base and a glass jar containing 47.53 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

McCoy will be sentenced on Jan. 15, 2025. The gun charge is punishable by up to 15 years in federal prison. He also faces up to 20 years on the drug charge.
