ST. LOUIS – The family and friends of fallen Officer David Lee gathered at the North Patrol Division Monday, where Lee’s patrol car stands as a memorial, covered in flowers left by those who loved him.

His family shared heartfelt memories of a man dedicated not just to his job but to his family and community.

“David was amazing. David was humble. David didn’t judge people. David loved people for who they were. David embraced all of us. David was all of our protectors, all of us,” Danielle Williams, David’s sister, said.

The officer’s brother-in-law, Will Anderson, added, “A gentle giant. His mannerisms alone could calm you down, in and out of uniform. His demeanor never changed. He was a kind spirit; he loved on everyone.”

Lee’s tragic death has also prompted BackStoppers to step in and assist his family during this incredibly difficult time.

“With the help from BackStoppers, I think it will ease the pain some and make things a little better for them to handle life, but like I said, it won’t replace him, but help is good,” Anderson said.

The organization provides financial aid for immediate expenses, education costs for his children, and medical support. The executive director of BackStoppers called Officer Lee “a hero who will be forever honored and remembered.”

His sister remembers how she found out about the life changing news.

“David just got hit. Then I heard a scream because my mom was on the phone with my neighbor, cause his police officer’s best friend is the cop. He said David is in surgery and that how I found out,” she said.

The police department have left Lee’s vehicle in front of the North Patrol for the public to pay their respects. His mother, sister, and children visited the site, with his wife remaining at home as it was too overwhelming, the family noted.

Lee’s family is trying to cope with this tragic new reality.

The officer leaves behind his wife and two children. As the community comes together to honor Officer David Lee, BackStoppers and police officials ask for prayers and support for his loved ones during this difficult time.
