ST. LOUIS – An elk escaped from Grant’s Farm and is currently roaming near Gravois Road and Grandview Drive.
The event occurred just before 8 p.m. on Monday evening, prompting efforts by St. Louis County Police and Grant’s Farm to come up with a plan to bring the animal back home.
FOX 2 has learned that authorities used a Gator, a utility vehicle, to guide the elk back to the farm. Despite efforts in an attempt to secure the animal, Grant’s Farm released a tragic update regarding the elk that escaped this evening.
According to a spokesperson from Grant’s Farm, the elk sustained life-threatening injuries during its escape and was euthanized.
The statement reads:
“While every attempt was made to safely secure the animal, we discovered it sustained a life-threatening injury. After consulting with our veterinarian, the decision was made to euthanize the animal. The passing of any animal in our care is a matter of great importance and concern. We are grateful for our Animal Welfare Team’s quick response to this incident, and we have inspected the entire perimeter of the Deer Park to ensure the perimeter is secure.”
