ELLISVILLE, Mo. – The Ellisville Police Department warned drivers Wednesday about officers patrolling in front of schools after a student was almost hit while crossing a busy street.

Neighbors said they’re noticing the extra police presence near Ridge Meadows Elementary.

“It did not take but five minutes for (a police officer) to take off and pull someone over,” Jennifer Cooper, a local, said. She walks the area frequently and says she’s glad to see the additional officers pulling speeders over in front of the school.

“It’s pretty fast. They usually take off the minute they kind of curve around here but usually from this spot on. But what concerns me is obviously, the school is right across the street,” she said.

“We have reports of speeding, going too fast in a school zone. Especially when school is let out during parent pick-up,” Capt. Andy Vaughn, Ellisville Poilice Department, said. “We all want to make sure our children can safely go to and from school without any added extra hazards of vehicles.”
