WARREN COUNTY – Drivers in St. Charles and Warren counties are bracing for construction and some slowdowns in the coming months along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) is set to narrow eastbound I-70 lanes between Warrenton and Foristell in order to add a third lane along that stretch of the interstate. In order to do that, there will be nightly right lane closures through September.

The first portion of the project, from Wright City to the St. Charles County line, was set to begin Thursday night. MODOT said the nightly right lane closures will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

During non-working hours, traffic will be shifted into narrower lanes with a barrier wall along the right shoulder.

‘Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville’ is the second project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program and will add a third lane of travel in each direction to I-70 from Warrenton to Wentzville.

The multi-billion-dollar program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
