Drive-by shooting investigation in south St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – Imagine being jolted awake in the middle of the night, thinking it’s just fireworks, only to discover gunfire outside your home!

“I came out to the living room. My husband was still awake. I said, ‘What’s going on?’ ‘Hit the floor. Get down on the floor!’ We peek out our door and see the car rolling by and muzzle flashes,” neighbor Christine Wong said.

Neighbors on Pennsylvania Avenue captured the terrifying scene on video, showing a car slowly driving by, firing shots at homes—multiple flashes lighting up the street. One resident, too scared to keep filming, ducked for cover as the shooters approached. Property owner Andrew Yee tells us this is the first time he’s ever had trouble with this tenant.

“The tenant is aware that something happened last night, and they are vacating as soon as possible,” he said. “From what I’m told and saw some photos is that the windows were shot out and a door as well.”

Two homes next door were struck by bullets, leaving residents shaken. They say this isn’t the first time the tenants have caused problems and believe a relative of the tenant—possibly the intended target—wasn’t supposed to be there. One neighbor said calling 911 only added to their fear due to being put on hold.

“It does have me re-evaluating what we want to do. If we want to stay. What can we do to protect our family,” Wong said.

FOX 2 reached out to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for comment.

“I can confirm that officers took the report of an assault first-degree after shots were fired into an occupied residence,” a spokesperson said. “No injuries were reported; however, ballistic damage was observed to the residence and to a parked vehicle outside. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

That’s exactly what happened on Pennsylvania Avenue.
