ST. LOUIS – One woman is hurt after a domestic dispute led to a shooting Saturday morning in north St. Louis. Authorities have arrested the alleged gunman.
The victim, a 42-year-old woman, is being treated for critical injuries. The suspect, identified by police as 71-year-old Earnest Stewart, was in a romantic relationship with the victim prior to the incident.
The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Saturday in the 4200 block of Penrose Street in St. Louis’ O’Fallon neighborhood.
Authorities responded to a street nearby and found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound to her right thigh. The victim told police she was in a verbal argument with Stewart, though it later became physical and ended with her being shot.

Police later found Stewart nearby and arrested him without incident. He was also found in possession of a weapon suspected in the shooting.
Stewart was charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and fourth-degree assault amid the investigation. Police say he is a previously convicted felon and is in custody without bond.
The victim is currently hospitalized in critical, but stable condition. SLMPD is handling the investigation.
