JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri has been playing a losing hand when it comes to sports betting.
Even the state’s professional teams say they’re tired of waiting on lawmakers. The St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, City SC, Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and KC Current are using the initiative petition process to ask voters if sports betting should be legal.
Last year, the House passed sports betting, but it came to a halt in the Senate. While many point fingers at Republican Senator Denny Hoskins, others say they are willing to work with him to get sports betting across the finish line.
However, leadership says it’s a long shot.
