ST. LOUIS – Two people wound up in the hospital with injuries after a shooting and dog bite outside a Soulard bar on Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred outside Molly’s on Geyer Avenue near 7th Street in Soulard around 11:30 p.m.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police say it all started with some sort of verbal confrontation inside the business, possibly over a stolen phone. The conflict spilled over outside of the establishment where the shots were fired.

Investigators say a man in his 50s suffered two gunshot wounds to his legs. Authorities say a 28-year-old man is the suspect in this case and he was taken into custody.

It’s reported that good Samaritans helped detain the suspect until police arrived and that one of the bystanders’ dogs actually bit the alleged shooter.

Police say both the suspect and the victim wound up going to the hospital for treatment.

Police tell us the man who was shot is stable. There was no official condition on the suspect who was bit by the dog. But it appears the injuries to both men are not life-threatening.

The police investigation is still ongoing.
