ST. LOUIS – Ongoing issues with water main breaks have kept crews busy at Missouri American Water.
Out of 4,200 miles of water pipelines, they have worked to restore a little over 200 breaks since last Monday. While major breaks have been fixed, lingering small breaks are still being worked on.
There is a plan for Missouri American Water to replace pipes in St. Louis County.
“We’re looking at investing about $360 million in St. Louis County,” Christie Barnhart, external affairs manager, said. “In terms of pipe replacement itself, we’ve got (plans) for about 60 miles of replacing aging water mains. Which ultimately, the goal is to get the older pipe out of the system first to target the areas that have frequent main breaks.”
Over 60 water main breaks were reported on Tuesday, with about 20 of them restored by mid day.
