Court order suspends St. Louis County Councilman

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell has filed an order Tuesday that prevents Dennis Hancock from acting as St. Louis County Councilmember.

A preliminary order in a quo warranto case, which was formally issued Tuesday, challenges Hancock’s authority to hold the position, suspending him from duties as he awaits further court proceedings.

Court documents obtained by FOX 2 did not immediately disclose what led up to the order.

Documents specify that Hancock must submit a response to the “petition in quo warranto” by Sept. 17. “If you fail to do so, judgment by default will be taken against you for the relief demanded in your position,” the order reads, per court documents.

Hancock has been serving a a County Councilman for District 3 in St. Louis County and was formerly the mayor of Fenton, Missouri from 2001-2013, according to a St. Louis County biography page.

FOX 2 is attempting to reach out to spokespersons for Bell and Hancock for further comment.
