CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Big things are coming to the Chesterfield Mall area to revamp the once bustling shopping complex.

The mall had a 48-year run—that’s outlasted most modern American malls—but come Saturday, Aug. 31, the power is shutting off and the early stages of a huge new development will begin.

Tenants were dwindling as mall crowds began to, but the new development is already making big strides to revamp the Chesterfield shopping experience, including negotiating with Dillard’s to finally reopen their doors after years of stagnation.

Demolition is set for Oct. 15, grading will begin May 1, and vertical development will begin in the fall of 2025. The Staenberg Group is developing the project to serve as downtown Chesterfield.

“I value the input of community, the people, and the officials that are going to make this a success,” president of TSG, Michael Staenberg, shared.

Plans include mixed-use development of apartments and businesses. Macy’s will be redeveloped to include retail on the first floor and opening the upper levels as offices, where medical and data companies have already shown interest in finding their home.

The first phases of development could be complete by 2027, and the community is thrilled but thankful for the memories they created here.

“I think that there’s really great plans that are going to be in place for what they’re going to do here, and it’ll be a fresh start for the community. It’s hard to see it go, but you have to be nothing but excited for the future,” one resident that frequented the mall for one last time told FOX 2 Wednesday.
