ST. LOUIS – One man has been charged in connection with a shooting in St. Louis City’s Greater Ville neighborhood last week that injured three people.
According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened on February 8 in the 4400 block of Ashland Avenue.
Police claim Rufus Roddy Jr., 67, suspected the victim had been involved in an assault that happened in October 2023 and went to the victim’s home to confront him.
The victim was getting out of his car when Roddy approached, took out a gun, and shot the victim in the back.
In response, the victim grabbed a gun from his car and returned fire in self-defense, striking Roddy in the left arm.
A third person was sitting outside when this happened and suffered a gunshot wound in his upper leg. Police do not know from which gun that bullet was fired.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Roddy with first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, second-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Because Roddy has a prior felony conviction, he remains jailed without bond.
