ST. LOUIS – Criminals struck Christina Scott’s car in the middle of the day—in a crime that’s continued to take unusual turns. Thankfully, she is OK and her car was found, but she can’t get inside her vehicle, which she says has her “whole life—like everything.”
Scott can see her vehicle inside the St. Louis City Tow Yard. It’s been there since Monday.
She’d just purchased the 2018 Lincoln MKX and parked it on Blendon Place in Maplewood to run inside her home for a second.
“My car was off, but my purse was on the floorboard and I was just running in,” she said.
She did not know what the Ring camera video now shows—two mysterious black vehicles were following her. She watched from her porch as carjackers jumped out.
“They started yelling and I looked back and…they had their guns drawn, saying, ‘Get back, get back,’” Scott said.
Her phone, purse, and other important belongings were inside. She used another phone to track her vehicle to Adelaide Avenue, where a crash reportedly sent an innocent driver to the hospital. Scott says she watched her Lincoln being towed, but they wouldn’t let her check inside.
“I just want to see what I can get back of my personal belongings,” she said.
An employee at the tow yard confirmed they do need a release from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department before they can give a car owner access to their vehicle.
She says the police, meanwhile, won’t tell her what’s going on.
“Literally giving me the runaround for the past 48 hours. It’s very frustrating.”
Police often need time to take fingerprints and other evidence from a stolen car. We noticed a police crime lab van at the tow lot when we visited, but there was no activity around Scott’s vehicle.
FOX 2 has contacted SLMPD to see if this can be solved for Scott.
She is aware that her insurance will declare her car totaled, but she believes that if she can just open the car door, she might be able to regain some of her life.
